About Us - Our Family & Company
Our Company was founded in the mid 1880’s in Finger Road, Dawley by Simeon Higginson Breeze. During the 1920’s the running of the Company was taken over by his son, John Vaughan Breeze, who then moved to our current site in Dawley Bank, still operating as a Blacksmith and village carpenter. He was assisted by his daughter, Kathleen, who in 1941 married Walter Williams.
In 1961, Christopher Williams, current Chairman, entered the family business after serving his apprenticeship with local funeral director W. L. Jones of Wellington and Dawley. Christopher was a visionary and from the outset, as the youngest Funeral Director in the country, set about a lifelong ambition of offering the finest funeral services available to the people of Telford and surrounding areas.
The 1960’s saw the opening of Telford’s first dedicated chapel of rest. The 1970’s saw the expansion of our Company with the purchase and amalgamation of John Sheward and Sons Carriage masters (Little Dawley), Broome and Poole Funeral Directors (Madeley), W E Wilkes Funeral Service (Dawley and Beckbury) and W J Williams Funeral Service (Ironbridge and Coalbrookdale). During the 1980’s, our facilities continued to be developed to complement the requirements of the New Town.
In 1992, John Williams Funeral Service of Shifnal was purchased and operates today as a separate entity but shares the same services.
In 1997, the Director’s embarked on what was meant to be a simple building project to improve facilities, with the underlying ethos still being to offer the finest in the country.
This project has never stopped, with the following developments taking place:
2005 - major office refurbishment,
2007 - new chapels of rest and service chapel were dedicated and opened at Dawley Bank,
2008 - 8000 sq. ft. limousine garaging and valeting facility opened at Hortonwood, Telford,
2009 - A Memorial Showroom opened at Dawley Bank,
2010 - The Shropshire School of Funeral Service opened.
The fifth generation, Simon and Louise Williams, who are now actively involved in the family business, are extremely proud of the achievements made by previous generations and continue to build on the ethos set out all those years ago. All of our directors and members of staff have the same goal: to provide every bereaved family we serve with the finest levels of service and facilities available.
In 2011 the directors were honoured to be invited to join Selected Independent Funeral Homes; a group of worldwide Funeral Directors, with only 26 U.K. members, whose membership is strictly by invitation. Members are regarded all over the world as offering the highest standards of funeral service available.
